Mother's Day Gifts (Projects) 050910

So in February and in March we had little project days during my Friday Scrapbooking chat. We call the Chat Room Projects. This is the project we created in February. It is called an Explosion box. Alicia showed us how to do it with instructions on her blog. You can find them here if you would like to make one yourself. :-) We were told a bit about it before hand so I decided I was going to make one for our mother's for Mother's Day. So I set out making the first box. I ran in to some problems with the lid on it. I realized you have to almost score it just slightly outside the recommended score line. So once I figured that out and redid the lid, it worked like a charm! :-) Here is the finished project, which I just completed yesterday with the pictures and ribbon and flower. The other part has been done for quite some time. This is the one I made for Kevin's mom.


Then I got thinking more about it and thought what a pain it was going to be to make and mail this same explosion box to my mom. But I was still going to do it. Well then came the March Chat Room project and Tracy taught us how to do a mini album. So once I started putting it together I realized it was going to be perfect for my mom. And meet all the criteria of being smaller and easier to mail! lol This is what it looked like before the pictures were added. I forgot to take pictures of it after it was done, but I was in such a rush to get it mailed so it would arrive before Mother's Day.

And then here is the card I made for both of them. It is actually the card I created for Card Club in April (no I still haven't posted them, I know I am a HUGE slacker! lol) It actually coordinates with the explosion album I made for Kevin's mom.

I am THRILLED with the way they turned out!!! And I think the Mom's were too! :-)

National Scrapbooking Day Pages 5/1/10

Boy I am behind on my blogging here! lol Saturday May 1st was National Scrapbooking Day. So I decided to use my day wisely and go scrapbook shopping! lol (Online for digital kits! lol) I got a great steal of a deal. I think I ended up with 8 full size kits for $8!!! Most of the kits typically are $4-$5 EACH! And some of them I have been wanting for a VERY long time! So it all worked out!

Anyway, after I went shopping, I decided I should actually create a page or two! lol So I headed over to my favorite scrapbooking hang out, Stuff to Scrap, and started checking out the new May challenges. The first one that caught my eye and I actually wanted to do was the scraplift challenge. You can go here to see the original layout that we were scraplifting. Sail Away by Shel Belle Scraps

One day while shopping at Target Shel of Shel Belle Scraps, came across a pillow with some great colors in it. It inspired her to create a sailing kit using those colors at the palette. Here is a preview of the entire kit. So many great elements and papers. I was amazed at the wonderful pages some of the other creative team members made! All of the pages are awesome!

Here is my two pages LO. This is from our trip last summer to Pittsburgh. We went to the Children's Museum and they had the whole top floor as a "water park" lol It was a HUGE pool of water about 2 feet deep that had cranks to create whirlpools, boats, buckets, and even a pipeline. You could create a tidal wave, but it wasn't working. It was super cool. He had this raincoat on that they provided but it was so big the water sometimes just ran down his arms and soaked his shirt underneath! lol He had fun anyway! lol

Desktop, SS, and MyLife Challenge for 4/25-5/1

Today I tried to finish up some challenges going on over at Stuff to Scrap. The first one I completed was the Desktop challenge. You complete a desktop for your computer for the following month. So here is my May desktop. Since it is Tye's birthday month, I decided to scrap about his birthday from last year. :-)

Then last night I completed a Speed Scrap at Stuff to Scrap. I actually used the speed scrap to complete the MyLife challenge for the week. The MyLife Challenge was to scrap a tradition. Every year we go to the Christmas Eve service at the local Presbyterian church. While we are not Presbyterian, our church does not do a Christmas Eve service and when I was younger every year we would go to the service at my grandparent's church (and then eventually my uncle's church who was a pastor). I always loved going and singing songs and lighting the candles so when Kevin and I got married, we decided to keep that tradition and go every year. Now that we have Tye he goes with us and joins in this tradition.

So here are the instructions for the speed scrap that created the page I am doing:
STEP 1: Choose 5 papers (2 solid, 3 patterned) and 2 pictures.
STEP 2: Use one solid paper as the background. Create a circle out of the second solid paper in the middle of your page.
STEP 3: Create 3 long strips out of your patterned paper (one piece per patterned paper). Overlap the strips and place where you'd like on the layout.
STEP 4: Place your pictures as you'd like on the layout. Then add 6 embellishments--whatever you'd like--to your layout as you wish. You can repeat embellishments.
STEP 5: Add a tag or journal label. Journal at least 3 sentences on it.
STEP 6: Add a title, using an alpha. Curve the alpha like the edge of the circle.
STEP 7: Add your finishing touches (shadows, etc.).

So here is my page for the challenge and the speed scrap! :-) (Yes I used the same picture and just duplicated it. But in my defense I did ask if I could do it! lol)
